مایه‌کوبی و مقاومت Inoculating and Resistance

بخش درخور توجهی از شالودهٔ فکری و احساسی این مسیر مشترک کنونی‌مان را اول به پدرم مدیون‌ام و بعد به ماریا کالزادا پرز و استادی که مرا با او آشنا کرد، لیز هبرت. هدف من از نوشتن دربارهٔ ترجمه، ریشه در رویکردی حرفه‌ای دارد که آن را از پدرم آموخته‌ام. پدرم تلاش می‌کرد دانش جامعهٔ مخاطبش را دربارهٔ امکانات حرفه‌اش ارتقا دهد و بنابراین در آنان روحیهٔ مطالبه‌گری ایجاد کند تا به آن چیزی برسند که حق انسانی آن‌ها است، درمان درست و اصولی. همچنین، بسیاری از انتخاب‌های من برای تولید محتوا در این فضا و نوشتن برای شما برگرفته از کاری است که کالزادا-پرز در مقالهٔ «مترجمان و مطالعات ترجمه: دانشوران به‌مثابه مایه‌کوبان مقاومت» کرده است.

او در این مقاله «ترجمه‌»های سه آگهی تصویری بازرگانی را با سه عمق متفاوت، تحلیل نشانه‌شناختی می‌کند و مخاطبانش را در برابر ابتلا به «نومصرف‌گرایی» مایه‌کوبی می‌کند. به‌عبارتی، آن‌ها را با واکاوی و تحلیل نشانه‌شناختی نمونه‌ای از نفود نومصرف‌گرایی به آگهی بازرگانی ترجمه‌شده، می‌کوشد مخاطبش را در برابر آن مقاوم کند. او تخصصش در مطالعات ترجمه را به‌کار می‌بندد تا نه‌تنها آگاهی مخاطبانش را افزایش دهد، بلکه در آن‌ها «تیزنگری» انتقادی ایجاد کند. او که این مفهوم را از بل هوکس وام می‌گیرد، می‌خواهد تیزنگری انتقادی مخاطبانش را پرورش دهد تا برای انتخاب‌های آگاهانه‌تر توانمند شوند. او توجه مترجمان و پژوهشگران ترجمه را هم به این نکته جلب می‌کند که تخصص آنان این امکان را در خود دارد که وارد جریان جنبش‌های مقاومت شود. کالزادا-پرز در این مقاله به‌شیوهٔ خود و در عرصهٔ تخصصی خود در برابر نومصرف‌گرایی مقاومت می‌کند و مخاطبان عام و خاصش را به مقاومت فرامی‌خواند.

اگر کار اندکی در ترجمان سکوت از دست من بربیاید، جایی به این دو رویکرد گره خورده است: آنجا که تلاش می‌کنم آگاهی شما را از ترجمه‌ای که به دست شما می‌رسد افزایش دهم تا از ترجمه و مترجمان و پژوهشگران ترجمه چیزی را مطالبه کنید که حق اجتماعی شماست؛ و آنجا که می‌کوشم در شما تیزنگری انتقادی‌‌ای ایجاد کنم تا در برابر ساختارهای سلطه‌ای که در ترجمه‌ها دست به بازتولید ستم می‌زنند، مقاومت کنید.

I owe a significant portion the intellectual and emotional foundations of this shared journey of us, first to my father, alongside to María Calzada Pérez and the professor who introduced her to me, Lyse Hébert. My purpose in writing about translation has its roots in a professional approach I learned from my father. He strived to elevate his society's knowledge of his professional field and its facilities, developing the attitude of demanding what is rightfully theirs: proper and substantial treatment. Furthermore, many of my choices for content creation in this space and writing for you are drawn from Calzada Pérez’s act of resistance in her article "Translators and Translation Studies: Scholars as Inoculators of Resistance."

In this article, Calzada Pérez analyzes three translated advertisements in three semiotic stages, inoculating her readers against New Consumerism. In other words, she makes her audience resistant against New Consumerism by dissecting and semiotically analyzing translated advertisements as a case of New Consumerism influence. She leverages her expertise in Translation Studies not only to raise awareness in her audience, but also to develop a critical "gaze" in them. Inspired by bell hooks, she aims to foster the critical gaze among her readers, empowering them to make more conscious choices. She also draws the attention of translators and translation researchers to the fact that their expertise enables them to engage in resistance movements. In her own unique way and within her specialized field, Calzada Pérez resists New Consumerism and encourages both her general and specific audiences to resist.

If my humble work in Translating Rests manages to achieve anything, it is where these two approaches intersect: firstly, my efforts to increase your awareness of the translations you access, encouraging you to demand something that is your social right from translation, translators, and translation researchers; and secondly, my endeavor to instill a critical gaze in you, empowering you to resist the power structures that reproduce injustice through translations.
